fall/winter 2013 trends

August is here...hard to believe the year has already reached its halfway point! Though it may be disheartening to see summer begin its fade into fall, it is time for a new chapter, a crisp breath of cool air, and some fresh fall fashion. As much as I love summer and its breezy ocean days, beachy hair, and hot sun, I get excited thinking about the next season. I may be a tad more excited because I don't have to go to school this fall, but still..it's exciting nonetheless.

To me, autumn is more of a romantic time of year.. perhaps its the scents and sights of crackling fires, warm ovens, and colorful hues of changing leaves. But I also think the fashion is a bit more romantic in a sense as well. Spring/summer fashion is usually a time to be bold, bright, and blooming where fall/winter is rich and deep in color, classic in design, yet fresh and edgy its own way. I also think fall/winter fashion is a bit more intriguing because of the layering aspect of the colder months. It's a time to welcome the changing of seasons by starting something out of the ordinary, treading new trends, and being romanced by the atmosphere around you.

Here are some of my favorite looks and most notable trends going into f/w 2013:

grays and greens:

when it comes to the fall color palette, I love deep reds, burnt yellows and blue hues as much as anyone, but this fall, designers seemed to love their charcoal grays and autumn greens. so feel free to pick up a few items that are a shade of gray or on the green side from emerald to army.

Balmain// I've said it before and I'll say it again.. this is the year of Balmain. We've seen it from the runway to the red carpet time and time again, so I think they've really got something here.  I chose this look to start off with because I love everything about it. The leather top, the layering, and the wrapped skirt. The color of the skirt is stunning and this emerald-esque color is definitely something to pick up this fall.

Celine// though it's fun to add and layer in the fall, don't feel like you have to over think your outfits. This simple gray a-line is a great transition between pre-fall and fall.

Christian Dior// one of my all time favorite designers and one of my favorite looks from this fall. I love the gray with just a bit of black gives this flirty silhouette a serious side as well.

Dolce and Gabbana// gray is also a great color to mix with your other go-to fall colors

Gucci// this army color and shape are still in for this fall

Michael Kors// play around with your color with fun patterns..or try something like this Kors print resembling camouflage.

in cape you missed it:

this fall and winter, try something a little different than the plain old coat you have hanging in your closet. Capes are definitely a huge trend this year; here are a few looks from the f/w runway.

punk rock:

from the Met Gala theme to this falls runway, another huge trend this year is a bit edgier: punk rock. a modern twist on plaid combined with some leather, layers, and a whole lot of attitude.

Saint Laurent// I love the sweetness offsetting the sultry here with the light pink cardigan. This is a subtle way to try this trend if your like me and just not quite the punk rock poster girl. The details especially pull the look off: hair, makeup, tights, and boots with an edge give you a chic rock feel.

Balenciaga// all black is a classic rocker look and I love the bold cutouts here..also take a look at that awesome back view!

Balenciaga// the harness feel to this dress gives it a punk feel

Balmain// sleek and rocker chic. the structured shoulder gives this look an edge but also has the girlish peplum element. Opposed elements are a main theme this fall (I'll talk more about that later)

Celine// two trends in one!

Givenchy// I've got to say.. Givenchy f/w 2013 has the most amazing leather jackets ever. make sure you check out the rest!

Givenchy// punk rock to precision

Moschino// I love the more feminine appeal to this look, almost a classic looking plaid with the perfect amount of peplum and trim pant.

Moschino// a little bit edgier than the previous by this designer

Roberto Cavalli// combined with another trend (feathers/fur), this look knocks punk rock out of the park, down to the detailing on the coat as well as the skirt.

hang loose:

oversized overcoats. loose silhouettes are really big this fall (no pun intended). these coats are usually cinched around the waist to give shape or are paired with large round buttons.

Balenciaga//
