oscars 2013: my personal best dressed list

So I was originally going to do this on twitter, but I couldn't fit under the character limit for just about ANY of my picks...so here are my picks for best dressed EVERYTHING at the Oscars (I had to come back and change this after my post got a little out of hand..warning you now it's rather long haha). Before I begin, I will say that I thought the Oscar fashion this year was absolute and all around glamour. The Oscars are always my favorite awards show (and I do love me some awards shows) because I have an obsession with film (its art form, history, messages, complexity, and of course, the stars... so basically everything!). Mix that with fashion, musical performances, and acceptance speeches and you will find me glued to my television for about 6 hours (give or take with pre-shows/after-shows). So you may think I'm crazy, but I just love every minute of it. My mom and I are already starting to plan our Oscar 2014 Party..so that gives you an idea of our love for this evening ;)

So back to my best dressed list...obviously everyone's is different and people have individual tastes in style and color. That could be one of the greatest things about fashion..but that's another blog, another time. Without further ado, let's allow the dresses to speak for themselves:

follow the jump to get started...

 1. Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab Haute Couture.

  • This. Dress. It's perfection. First of all, Sandra Bullock is amazing and could look gorgeous in just about anything. But this. dress. It is the perfect balance between chic and sexy, classy and flirty, and simple yet complex. Black (my personal favorite color ever) is timeless, and the sheerness of the dress modernizes it, but doesn't over do it. The beading is flawless...I can't imagine the time and dedication put into this gown. The shape is fairly simple, with a high neckline and train that add just a bit of "pizzaz". Basically, there is nothing about this dress I don't absolutely love. She looks elegant, classic, chic, modern, sexy, modest, and daring ALL AT THE SAME TIME. It really is just perfection. (Side note: I also enjoy how she stood out from all of the full/heavy skirted and strapless gowns this year.)

Seriously, LOOK at that detail!

2. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture.
  • How do you not love Jen? She is so real, honest, and just herself. This dress was complete elegance on her. I love the texture to it and her reverse necklace? loved it all. Definite win. And who can't give her props for even attempting to go up stairs in this giant-bottomed dress...shoutout to Hugh Jackman for rushing to her assistance.

The jewelry...but also, she looked just STUNNING!

3. Naomi Watts in Armani Prive.

  • Normally, I'm not crazy about an asymmetrical dress; HOWEVER, this gown is perfect on Naomi. Like...I couldn't have chosen a better match. She wears it effortlessly. The neckline is more of a daring choice, but her risk was more than worth it.

 4. Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture.

  • Minimalistic. Elegant. Peplum. Rocking (and loving) her short do, Charlize owned this gown. A sleek silhouette with a bit of trendy peplum, there's nothing I don't love about this look.

5. Jennifer Aniston in Valentino.

  • This is a classic gown I would definitely love to wear. I love the red, the design, and of course the signature Jen Aniston hair. She is timeless.

6. Samantha Barks in Valentino.

  • I honestly just love Samantha Barks. This was a very bold choice (wouldn't be something I would choose necessarily), but she owned it. When I first saw it on her, I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped. I love that it is simple enough in the sense that she wears the dress rather than the dress wearing her. The fabric photographed beautifully, and I loved the "breakfast at tiffany's"-esque feel to it.

(also, I can't even begin to talk about how amazing she looked in her performance gown!)

 7. Sally Field in Valentino Haute Couture.

  • I love everything about this gown...the sheer sleeve, waist gathering (so flattering!), and ornate textured skirt/train. So elegant and classy.

And now for the rest of my favorites, I thought it would be fun to do some "bests" awards :)

BEST DETAIL: Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen.

  • Embroidered with miniature dragonflies..need I say more?

BEST ACT OF CHIVALRY: Hugh Jackman.

  • If you've read up to this point, you'll know where I'm going with this. Plus, who wouldn't fall if they knew Hugh Jackman was about to leap to your assistance. Seriously, how precious is he?

BEST SURPRISE: Kristin Stewart in Reem Acra.

  • Anyone who knows me knows I'm not particularly fond of this actress, but I've got to give it to her, I thought she looked gorgeous. Crutches and all.

BEST LIQUID SHIMMER: Nicole Kidman in L'wren Scott.
  • This award speaks for itself. In head to toe sequins, Nicole definitely has the body to pull this off. That being said, I would fancy it much more without the gold detailing on the stomach and swirls at the bottom. But, I'm not here to say how I would change a dress to how I would wear it..which is why she didn't make my best dressed...but she definitely did turn heads (as always..she's stunning!).

BEST HAIR: Reese Witherspoon: Classic Old Hollywood Waves.

She is so gorgeous I can't even deal.

Best Hair Runner-up: Jennifer Lawrence!

MOST DAPPER: clearly I couldn't choose just one winner, so here are my favorites. You're welcome.

Perhaps my (second) best dressed male right here: Chris Pine in Ermenegildo Zegna.

The cutest. Plus, he took Sally Field as his date :)

And my NUMBER ONE best dressed male Eddie Redmayne in Alexander McQueen (wow!)..

FAVORITE PRESENTER: Meryl Streep presenting the Best Actor award to Daniel Day-Lewis

  • From her custom Lanvin gown to his adorable acceptance speech, the two Hollywood icons sharing the stage was such a special part of the evening.

FAVORITE 5 SECONDS: When they played Hedwig's Theme as Daniel Radcliffe came out on stage to present.

  • If you're in the fandom, you understand. (Also, he and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are just TOO dapper and adorable.)

BEST PERFORMANCE: Les Miserables.

  • VERY tough choice as I LOVED all the musical numbers this year so much (and can we talk about JHud? cray.), but I've got to give it to the amazing Les Mis cast. I could go on and on about how much I love Les Mis and everyone and the film and Eddie, and the score, and Eddie, and just everything, and did I say Eddie? Yes, it was amazing, moving, powerful, and fantastic. I get chills just thinking about it!

And hello again, Eddie Redmayne.

I could also have a whole other best dressed list for this performance alone!
Like honestly...

And Aaron Tveit is PERFECTION..

and did you SEE THAT DETAILING on Hugh's suit?!?!?

BEST ACCEPTANCE SPEECH: Anne Hathaway: Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables.
  • "Here's hoping that in the future, the misfortunes of Fantine will only be found in stories and not in real life." - Anne Hathaway.

FAVORITE WINNER: Argo: Best Picture
  • How can I say this when I haven't even seen the movie? Well, (besides the fact that I heard it's really good) I loved Ben Affleck's acceptance speech (Also a winner for my previous award!). I thought it was adorable how you could tell he was so excited and genuinely happy and freaking out at the same time.
  • "It doesn't matter that you get knocked down in life. It only matters that you get back up." -Ben Affleck
  • Also, I LOVED their post-Oscar Q&A time. They are all so hilarious. Basically, here ya go.

Okay, so this obviously turned out to be WAY more than a best dressed post..oops. I just love the Oscars way too much! xoxo.

Did you know?  The "oscar" is said to have gotten its name from Margaret Herrick, the Academy's Executive Secretary at the time, who first saw the award in 1931 and said it reminded her of her "Uncle Oscar".
